The campaign “HPV VACCINATION NOT for All” by the World Allergy Foundation highlights that while HPV vaccination plays a key role in cancer prevention, it should not be universally administered without prior screening.
Hyderabad, 1 April 2026 – The World Allergy Foundation has issued an urgent communication to the Prime Minister’s Office, Government of India, raising concerns over the blanket use of HPV vaccines and launching the public awareness campaign slogan, “HPV VACCINATION NOT for All.”
In a detailed two-page representation dated 7 March 2026, Dr. Vyakarnam Nageshwar, Founder President of the World Allergy Foundation and President of the campaign, has highlighted critical scientific and clinical concerns regarding the widespread, blanket use of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines manufactured using Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Baker’s yeast).
Key concerns highlighted in the letter include residual yeast proteins in the final vaccine product, explicit contraindication in individuals with yeast hypersensitivity, and the remarkably high prevalence of over 40% yeast hypersensitivity found in a retrospective analysis of 300 patients at Aswini Allergy Centre, Hyderabad.
“As a responsible and well-informed medically qualified citizen, I urge you to do everything possible to potentially prevent the calamity of flare-up in Allergy & Autoimmune diseases in Indian citizens during post vaccination drives, as seen earlier in covid times,” said Dr. Vyakarnam Nageshwar, Founder President of the World Allergy Foundation.
Common Symptoms of Yeast Allergic Reactions (Hypersensitivity to Saccharomyces cerevisiae / Baker’s Yeast):
These reactions can occur immediately or within hours of exposure to yeast-derived vaccines and may range from mild to life-threatening:
Skin reactions: Intense itching, hives (urticaria), red rashes, eczema flare-ups, or swelling of the face, lips, or tongue.
Respiratory symptoms: Sneezing, runny nose, wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, or asthma-like attacks.
Gastrointestinal symptoms: Nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, or bloating.
Systemic / Severe reactions: Rapid heartbeat, dizziness, drop in blood pressure, difficulty swallowing or breathing, and in extreme cases — anaphylaxis (potentially fatal without immediate medical intervention).
Dr.Vyakarnam emphasises that these symptoms are well-documented in international vaccine guidelines and product monographs for yeast-based recombinant vaccines. Administering HPV vaccines without prior screening in a population with such elevated yeast hypersensitivity poses an unnecessary and avoidable risk, especially in large-scale school-based or community-wide campaigns.
Dr. Vyakarnam’s recommendations for immediate safeguards:
- Mandatory pre-vaccination clinical screening — including detailed history for known or suspected severe yeast hypersensitivity.
- National guidelines for healthcare providers with clear referral protocols to allergy/immunology specialists.
- Strengthened post-vaccination monitoring and transparent adverse-event reporting.
- Urgent large-scale Indian population-specific research on yeast hypersensitivity.
The Foundation reiterates that this representation fully supports the cancer-preventive benefits of HPV vaccination but calls for a responsible, evidence-based, risk-stratified approach that upholds the principle of “do no harm” at the individual level.
The press conference received extensive media coverage across prominent platforms, reflecting its public health significance. Leading Telugu news channel TV9 Telugu reported on the issue in a detailed broadcast, while national and regional publications such as Deccan Herald, Deccan Chronicle, Arise News 7 and Zee Telugu News carried comprehensive reports highlighting the concerns raised by the World Allergy Foundation regarding HPV vaccination and yeast hypersensitivity risks.
